It is only fitting to initiate the launch of this online Family Connection Site, with a letter written by our beloved Nina Porio. As one of initial Updates to the Bazusca Club, the following is entitled: "Historian Report" dated November 3, 1997, by Nina Porio.

This is the beginning of the fourteenth year of the Bazusca Club and it is time to reflect on our roots and on how far we have come. We have been blessed with so much that truly, 'God' has been close to us every step of the way. We thank you Lord and may we always be worthy of your love.

The Moirano Family Tree compromises six generations and goes back to the small town of Albiano D'Ivrea in the Province of Torino, Italy. In 1863, Giovanni Moirano was born to Angelo Moirano and Teresa Bizone, whose ancestors had been farmers in Albiano for many generations. In 1887, Giovani married Annetta Sala, and they had four daughters, Maria, 1888; Clementina, 1894; Ernesta, 1897; Gina, 1900.

The four sisters all came to America between 1912 and 1920, and they all married men from the Province of Torino, Italy. In 1911, Maria married Giovanni Balma, in 1916, Clementina married Pietro Balma, in 1917, Ernesta married Francesco Scalenghe, and in 1920, Gina married Quinto Zucchino.

They settled in either the states of New York or New Jersey and the men earned a living working in the catering industry while the women worked as dressmakers until the children were born. Two of the men eventually had businesses of their own, on in building and one a bakery shop. Two couples owned their own homes and three couples became naturalized citizens. All were proud of nine children begat for they were first generation American Citizens.

OF this first generation five were boys and four were girls and all were born between 1913 and 1931. All had high school education and one had 3 years of college. This was the depression generation so they grew as hardworking, ambitious, good men and women, and God blessed them with each with a spouse who was good and industrious too. These mates were mostly of Italian ancestry from all parts of Italy, plus an English and Lithuanian. So, the nine became eighteen. Three served our country in the Second World War in both the Army and Navy – in the European and Pacific theaters of War. One earned the Legion of Merit Award and reached the rank of Major.

Many fields were now open to the men and they became engineers, mechanics, salesmen, postman, maintenance, masons, and business executives and shopkeepers. The women of the generation worked as well as the men, they were office workers, dressmakers, salesclerks and banking executive. They have lived in California, Florida, Panama, Arizona, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Montreal, Canada. All nine own their own homes and two also have summer places.

This generation has traveled many time across the United States and has been to Canada, Nova Scotia, Hawaii, Mexico, Aruba, Caribbean Islands, Italy and France.
Between the years 1941 and 1957 they begat 18 children, five girls and 13 boys.

These second generation Americans are a part of the new American Breed, full of questions, full of doubts, surrounded by options and the need for decisions, but they have within them the Bazusca roots and with God's Love, they are good and industrious and we are proud of each of them.

Ten of these second generation Americans are married and their spouses are all in the Bazusca Tradition and so this generation, as of today, now numbers 28. They have introduced more English blood, Polish and French and we welcome them all.

This generation has been well educated and they have among them 15 college Degrees, 2 Associate Degrees, 9 Masters Degrees, one had a fellowship for his PHD, and one completed her education at the Sorbonne in France. One is in the Who's Who of College Students; another is the Who's who in Insurance. We have 4 Eagle Scouts and two Curved Bar Scouts. Two have fencing avocations making it possible for them to travel all over the world as coaches with their teams.

In this generation we now have teachers, business executives, Accountants, Engineers, Sales Executives, Health Therapists, a Thespian, a Catering Business, and several Grade A Craftsmen. Four have served in the Armed Services in time of peace, one of which was the ROTC and attained rank of Captain.

This generation has so far, from 1962 to 1979 begat 12 lovely children – 7 boys and 5 girls. We, of the older generation are very proud and all of you for you are part of our life going forward.

This now brings us to the third generation, and we are happy to see little Bazuscans carrying our hopes and ideals. We see boy scouts working hard on their badges as did their parents and Uncles to earn their Eagle awards. The Eagles may still be far off, but they are coming. Several are in accelerated programs in school and one is President of his High School.

My report is now up to date and I can truly say the Bazuscan are honest law abiding citizens who work hard, enjoy life, and respect the laws of 'God' and man.
